What is Warhammer 40000: Rogue Trader Review in 2024

The Warhammer 40000 game brand has become one of the most popular RPG universes all over the world. The company has created a lot of different versions of games and Rogue Trader is one of them. It is a digital version and offers you a great experience.

You get to play as Rogue Traders who are powerful members and nobles of the Imperium. Although I haven’t finished the entire game, I’ve played enough to write a comprehensive review of it. If you want to know more about this game, this blog post can be helpful. Here, I’ll cover different aspects of the game in detail. Let’s start.

What is Warhammer 40000: Rogue Trader?

Warhammer 4000: Rogue Trader, also known as WH40K Rogue Trader,  is a digital video game set in the Warhammer 40000 universe. It is an amazing action game where you play the role of Rogue Trader. They are powerful characters that have the permission or Warrant of Trade given by the Emperor.

It is set in thousands of years in the future which isn’t very bright. Humanity faces a constant threat of war from different aliens and mutant species.

In this war-torn setting, your role is of great importance. Since your character has a trade warrant, your responsibility is to explore while making trades and engaging in combats. You get to complete different objectives and focus on making progress solving puzzles as a Rogue Trader as well.

Detailed Review of Warhammer 40000: Rogue Trader:

I’ve discussed my review of the game below:

World-building and Lore:

As I mentioned earlier, Warhammer 40000 is a diverse game universe containing different physical and digital games. One thing people love seeing in a game is a reference to some other versions along with a relevant and engaging story.

According to my experience, Rogue Trader has nailed both of these things perfectly. It builds the world in an engaging way. The developers have given extra attention to details that make it even more interesting to play.

Even if you are unaware of the 40K universe, this game is still enjoyable for you. That is because it has a feature of pop-up texts. These texts appear throughout the game to tell you about the background lore and information.

Combat system:

Rogue Trader has made a significant shift in its combat system. Now, it offers a Turn-Based system compared to Real-Time. I personally liked the previous version that was seen in the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. However, many players are loving the new combat system.

The main reason is that it fits well with the overall game dynamics. There’s actually a lot you can do with this system. A player has to use a cover system in order to protect themselves from ranged attacks.

Also, a player needs to position well on the field so that they can’t be surrounded or flanked by the enemy. Some expert players think it looks like a combination of turn-based Pathfinder and XCOM or Pheonix Point.

Although the new system is amazing, the game has a lot of battles in it. These battles are long and time-taking which makes the game lengthier. It annoyed me a little but some of you guys might love it.

Character progression:

Character progression has also changed a lot in The Rogue Trader. I loved how the game gives you more control over your character. You can do different things with the character that makes them unique and effective.

In my opinion, the progression system is like Pathfinder but with some obvious improvements. Characters have frequent chances of leveling up now and you get different choices you can make during the level-up process.

As a result, you get to make a character that you can properly use and engage with during combats. It’s a great addition for players who love having proper control of how their character is going to engage.

Cooperative Mode:

Another thing people, and me as well, are loving is the advanced cooperative game mode. It lets 6 players (yours included) play and have fun together. I have only tried out play with 3 players so far.

The experience I had was great and I can imagine how better it would be with even more players. There are not many RPG games out there that offer this type of co-op mode to players. So, I’m taking it as a positive point for the game.

Pros and Cons of Rogue Trader:

Here are the pros and cons of this Warhammer 40K game:

Pros:

  • Amazing gameplay
  • Good lore and reference to the 40K universe
  • Developed combat system
  • More control over character development

Cons:

  • A lot of time-taking battles
  • The story text can be annoying sometimes

Conclusion:

Warhammer 40000: Rogue Trader is a digital video game from the Warhammer 40K universe. This RPG title lets people explore a vast world that is war-torn and under constant threat of battles.

Players get to play as Rogue Traders who are capable of making trades and fighting in combats across the Imperial. There are mostly positive things I noticed about the game including the new combat system and character development control. Still, longer battles can bore some players.
